Materials

  • Contact paper
  • Paper plate
  • Glitter
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Single hole puncher
  • Yarn
  • Black and white paper

Instructions

Step 1)

Print the template pieces and cut them out. If you print the template on white cardstock you’ll only need to trace the hat shape onto black construction paper and cut it out. If the template is printed on regular white printer paper, trace the snow globe base shape onto white construction paper.

Step 2)

Cut a circle out of white cardstock or white construction paper and then fold it in half so you can easily cut out the middle of the circle leaving only the perimeter. Place sticky contact paper in the center hole of your circle.

Step 3)

Stick your snowman shape onto the contact paper in the center of the snow globe. Take your photo and cut out the face then glue the face onto the head of the snowman.

Step 4)

Glue the black snowman hat on top and draw black buttons onto the front of the snowman. If you want to add silver glitter or other decorations onto your contact paper now is the time!

You can use a second piece of contact paper to sandwich in the snowman so the snow globe ornament doesn’t have a sticky side exposed anymore.

Step 5)

Glue the snow globe base to the bottom of your ornament. Use a single hole punch at the top of your snow globe ornament and string a small piece of yarn through to make a loop.

Tips & Troubleshooting

Cutting Made Easy:

To help younger kids cut out the intricate snowman and snow globe pieces, consider pre-cutting the shapes or using child-safe scissors with supervision.

No Contact Paper? No Problem!:

If you don’t have contact paper, you can use clear plastic from packaging or a laminating sheet for the snow globe center. In a pinch, it’s not as smooth but you can use strips of clear packing tape too.

Extra Strength for Hanging:

To ensure your ornament doesn’t fall apart, reinforce the yarn loop hole with a small piece of clear tape before punching the hole.

Layering the Contact Paper:

When sandwiching the snowman between two pieces of contact paper, start pressing from the center outward to avoid wrinkles or air bubbles.

Creative Snow Globe Scenes:

Don’t limit yourself to just the snowman! Encourage kids to draw or cut out other holiday shapes like trees, stars, or make a cute winter scene to stick onto the contact paper. Add the child’s name to the back of their snow globe craft.

Benefits of This Snow Globe Craft For Kids

Encourages Creativity:

Kids can personalize their snow globe with photos, glitter, and decorations, allowing them to express their unique holiday style with this fun winter craft.

Following step-by-step instructions helps kids learn about the importance of order and sequence in completing a task.

The addition of a photo makes this fun snow globe craft a special memento kids and parents can cherish for years to come.
