Instructions
Step 1)
Use blue paint to paint the top ¾ of your paper plate blue. You can make it a gradient so the bottom is darker blue like the ocean and the sky is lighter blue.
Step 2)
Use yellow paint to paint the bottom ¼ of your paper plate to look like sand. Once it’s fully dry, use a craft knife or scissors to make a cut where the ocean meets the sand. This slit is where you’ll insert your popsicle stick puppet eventually.

Step 3)
Print out the pirate template pdf and cut out the template pieces.

Step 4)
Trace the sail template for the boat onto red paper and trace the boat and treasure box template onto brown paper.

Step 5)
Color in the pirate template and attach the pirate to a popsicle stick or craft stick with glue or tape.

Step 6)
Use a glue stick to glue the boat and sails to the blue part of the paper plate and glue the treasure chest to the yellow part of the paper plate. Then you can add gold glitter to the treasure chest to make it sparkle.

Step 7)
Insert your popsicle stick pirate puppet into the slit in the paper plate and make it move around to play!

Tips & Troubleshooting
Prep Your Craft Station
Lay down newspaper or a plastic sheet to protect your table from paint and glue. Before starting, ensure you have all the listed materials at hand. This will save you time and frustration during the crafting process.
Achieving the Gradient Effect
When painting the paper plate, start with the lighter blue at the top and gradually mix in darker blue paint as you move downward. Use a clean brush to blend the colors where they meet.
Safety First
When making the slit in the paper plate, older kids can use scissors carefully or seek assistance. Younger kids will need an adult to help with this step. Make sure the slit is wide enough for the popsicle stick to move freely but not too wide that it looks messy.
