Tips & Troubleshooting

Cardstock Vs Paper

to make your princess dolls last longer, you can use a more sturdy material like white cardstock to print the templates onto.

Supervise Younger Children:

If working with younger kids, provide guidance during cutting and gluing to ensure safety. Consider pre-cutting intricate pieces or assisting with more challenging steps. A glue stick might be easier to use than a bottle of white glue for young children.

Encourage Personalization:

Emphasize that there are no strict rules. Encourage children to personalize their princesses by choosing colors, stickers or styles that reflect their unique preferences.

Explore Texture:

Introduce additional elements like glitter, sequins, or fabric scraps to add texture and to make the princesses more visually interesting.

Variation Ideas

Fairytale Princesses:

Make paper doll princesses that look like your favorite fairytale princess from stories or princess movies. One long yellow braid for Rapunzel, brown hair and a yellow princess dress for Belle, or a blue dress for a cute Cinderella paper doll. There are so many great ways you can adapt this easy craft to make your favorite princesses.

Historical Princesses:

Explore different historical periods and cultures by creating princesses inspired by them. This not only adds an educational element but also broadens children’s understanding of diversity and history.

Family of Princesses:

Encourage the creation of an entire royal family. Kids can design kings, queens, princes and princesses, fostering storytelling and role-playing scenarios within a royal kingdom.

Benefits of This Princess Craft For Kids

Fine Motor Skills Development:

Creating princess paper dolls involves intricate cutting, tracing, and gluing, promoting the development of fine motor skills in children. These activities enhance their hand-eye coordination and dexterity as they manipulate scissors, glue, and small pieces of construction paper.

Cognitive Skills Enhancement:

Following the step-by-step instructions and assembling different layers of the princess dresses requires cognitive engagement. Children learn to follow a sequential process, enhancing their problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

Creativity and Imagination:

Designing and personalizing the princess dolls allow children to express their creativity and imagination. They can choose colors, patterns, and embellishments, fostering a sense of individuality and originality in their artistic endeavors.

Role-Playing and Storytelling:

Once the paper dolls are created, children can engage in imaginative play, inventing stories and scenarios for their princess characters. This role-playing not only encourages creativity but also helps in developing language and communication skills.

Puppetry and Social Interaction:

Adding popsicle sticks to the paper dolls transforms them into puppets, encouraging puppetry play. This opens up opportunities for social interaction as children can engage in collaborative storytelling or create puppet shows with friends and family.
