Let your child’s imagination grow with this whimsical fairy house craft! Made from simple materials and topped with a red mushroom-style roof, it’s the perfect afternoon project for preschoolers and early elementary kids. Whether your little one is deep into fairy tales, wants to make a fairy garden or just loves crafts, this paper roll fairy house is a great way to explore creativity and storytelling.

Materials
- Colored paper (red, green and brown)
- White paper
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Colored pencils or pens (green & brown)
- Paper roll (toilet roll or paper towel roll)
Instructions
Step 1)
Gather your materials and supplies. Print off the free printable template included later in this article.

Step 2)
Cut out the template pieces and trace them onto colored paper. You can use green for the grass shape, red for the mushroom top roof and brown for the door.

Step 3)
Cut out the template pieces from the colored paper and trim the paper roll to the size you’d like. If you’re using a paper towel roll, you may want to cut it in half. For a toilet paper roll, you can trim the top a bit shorter or leave it tall for a whimsical look.

Step 4)
For more detail, you can use a green pen or pencil crayon to add grass-like texture to the green paper, use brown to draw details onto your door (like wood grain) and glue white paper dots to the roof of your red mushroom house.

Step 5)
Glue the brown door near the bottom of your paper roll. Glue the strip of green around the bottom of the roll, covering the bottom of the door. Then add the roof on top.
To give the roof a cone shape, cut a slit in the circle of red paper and glue the edges back together.

Tips & Troubleshooting
Too tricky to cut?
Grown-ups can pre-cut the template pieces for younger crafters or use thicker paper so tracing is easier.
Roof won’t stay?
Use a little extra glue or secure it from the inside with tape. Letting the glue dry for a minute before attaching can also help it stick better.
Want to make it sturdier?
Glue your finished fairy house onto a small paper plate or cardboard circle. This gives it a yard to decorate and helps keep it upright during play.
Add some sparkle!
Kids can use glitter glue, stickers, or even sequins to personalize their fairy house. It’s a fun way to make each creation unique!
